Resumo: This paper develops a descriptive explorative study on business management teaching at four universities: two in Brazil and two outside its borders. It seeks to characterize the activities related to the academic administration and organizational management of the teaching processes at these universities. The research methodology adopted is based on an interpretative approach involving university students, professors and members of the administration who know both sides of the realities involved in the investigation and only takes into account results approved unanimously by the participants. The indices point to the teaching of business management at the two Brazilian universities as being perceived to contain significant faults in the processes researched, even to the extent of compromising the students’ preparation for professional inclusion. Thus, it is concluded that there is a need for restructuring the process of institutionalization and rethinking the various roles played by the academic administration, especially as regards not only the content and teaching processes, but also the academic structure and assessment dynamics.
