Resumo: The Military Academy of Agulhas Negras, AMAN, in Resende - RJ, is a military institution and a college in military science that aims to graduate career officersin the Brazilian Army after four years of college. The physical activities undertaken by the cadets demand an excellent preparation of lumbar muscles and posterior thigh muscle, and, in fact, it is necessary that the cadets develop satisfactory levels of trunk flexibility. This physical quality - flexibility, is a physicalskill ordered by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACMS, 1998), and is intimately related to corporal health and well being. In addition, the US Department of Health and Human Services (2000) considers that a better state of flexibility is associated with a smaller risk of disease appearing, of articulation injury and or functional incapacity in general. The aim of this study was to compare the linear flexibility indexes among first and four year cadets of AMAN.
