Gira de Exú: a participant observation

The present text is a result of a participant observation in a Gira de Exú. This text aims to describe this participation, presenting liturgical, theological, social visible elements. While observer, the Gira de Exú was the first empirical contact with an Afro-descending religious tradition. For that reason, after the participation, a conversation with the Pai de Santo was held, in order to identify historical, theological and identitary elements by which the beneficent society - through the Pai de Santo - understands itself. The analysis was delimited in three axes: 1) the familiar structure around the Pai de Santo; 2) the hierarchy presented in the ritual and 3) the ambiguity of the entities. Thus, the present text is composed by descriptions, reflections and analyses from interactions: by observing the celebration and by hearing the Pai de Santo.
