Christian spirituality as an answer to individualism

The contemporary society has been characterized by individualism, the present trace that points to the centrality of the self and of the subjectivity. At this culture, ruled by narcissism, the relationships with the others are more and more self-referential, and it is the economical self, in its capacity to buy that has been determining who I am. It is believed that human longings are answered by particular choices to which the market offers countless consume options. In this way, consumerism grows promising to deliver prestige and to define identities, in an anxious and shredder dynamics. In this article, we investigate the Christian spirituality as a possibility of answering to the individualistic human of this consumerist society. The analysis is based on bibliographic research. The Christian spirituality puts these consumers in front of the reality of creation and answers to their most profound anxieties, teaching them about the God who is the centre, in the opposite way of individualism. In this perspective, they learn about the Creator God, that gives them the creature identity, fully and unique, that reveals itself in the necessity and the beauty of the relationship with the otherness.
