ResumoObjetivo: Descrever a importância da adesão da higienização das mãos pelo enfermeiro na prevenção de infecções relacionadas à passagem de sonda vesical de demora, e apontar como as Comissões de Controle de Infecção Hospitalar (CCIH) pode agir, instruindo o enfermeiro para a melhor assistência. Fonte de dados: Realizada por meio de revisão da literatura com critério de inclusão de estudos que concordassem com o tema proposto, foram utilizados boletins de saúde, uma portaria e artigos encontrados no PubMed, Lilacs, Scielo, Google Acadêmico e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS). Buscou-se os que apresentassem a importância da adesão da higienização, e dados recentes à infecção do trato urinário (ITU) associada ao uso da sonda vesical de demora (SVD), em unidades de terapia intensiva (UTI) para adultos, e descartou-se os que não tivessem relação com o assunto proposto. Sendo ao final usadas obras publicadas entre 1998 a 2018.Síntese de dados: Foi evidenciado que os enfermeiros conhecem a técnica correta da higienização, cuja realização minimiza o aparecimento de moléstias. Porém, o resultado é oposto, a adesão e a técnica não são executadas corretamente, com isso a negligência é a principal causa do aparecimento de infecção relacionada à passagem da sonda em unidades intensivas. Conclusão: Concluiu-se que a prática incorreta da higienização das mãos quanto ao procedimento de introdução de sonda vesical de demora favorece a aparição de enfermidades infecciosas no trato urinário; contudo, a principal forma de deter é a correta e simples higienização das mãos.Palavras-Chaves: higiene das mãos; infecção do trato urinário; risco ocupacional; cuidados na higiene das mãos; sonda vesical de demora. ABSTRACTObjective: to describe the importance of the adhesion of hand hygiene to the nurse in the prevention of infections related to the passage of the bladder catheter, and to point out how the Hospital Infection Control Commissions (CCIH) can act instructing the nurse to provide better care. Data source: Health bulletins, an ordinance and articles were not published in PubMed, Lilacs, Scielo, Google Academic and Virtual Health Library (VHL), through a review of the literature with the inclusion criteria of studies that agree with the proposed theme.
