Resumo: This paper presents and discusses the experience of a scientific course about Mental Health at Public Health School, University of São Paulo. The participants were health professionals who work in different parts of Brazil. The course aimed to contextualize the current situation of public mental health, to present the psychosocial care network and to discuss outcomes and challenges of practices in this field. The active learning method was adopted for the planning and development of the course. Besides the theoretical part, the course promoted guided visits at different mental health services and this strategy was considered by participants as a powerful learning tool. The classes also provided moments of sharing and discussion of different experiences of professionals, allowing reflection about achievements and difficulties of each territory. This course clearly showed the importance of providing daily work discussion opportunities in order to promote the leading role of mental health professionals.

Los participantes fueron profesionales de la salud de todo Brasil. El curso tuvo como objetivo contextualizar la situación actual de la salud mental colectiva, presentando la red de atención psicosocial, teniendo en cuenta los logros y desafíos presentes en las prácticas en este campo. La metodología activa basó todo su proceso de planificación e implementación. Además de la parte teórica, hemos visitado los servicios de salud mental que resultó ser una poderosa herramienta de conocimiento de la realidad, así como también la puesta en común y discusión de las realidades, lo que permite la reflexión sobre los avances y las dificultades experimentadas en su territorio. Este curso evidenció la importancia de ofrecer oportunidades de generar el protagonismo de los profesionales de salud mental.O artigo objetiva apresentar e discutir a experiência de um curso de difusão científica em Saúde Mental realizado na Faculdade de Saúde Pública da Universidade de São Paulo. O público participante foi composto por profissionais de saúde atuantes em diferentes áreas em todo território brasileiro. O curso visou contextualizar o panorama atual da saúde mental coletiva, apresentando a rede de atenção psicossocial, tendo em vista alcances e desafios presentes nas práticas nesse campo. A metodologia ativa embasou todo seu processo de planejamento e execução. Além da parte teórica, visitas em serviços de saúde mental foram realizadas, o que se mostrou ferramenta potente de conhecimento da realidade e permitiu a reflexão sobre avanços e dificuldades vivenciadas no território a partir do compartilhamento e confronto de realidades.
