Resumo: This research aims to analyze data in order to identify patterns and universal laws, followed by the development of stochastic models in multidisciplinary areas of complex systems. Each problem will be addressed with different approaches accordingly to the characteristics of the empirical data and their availability. For this purpose, this thesis will be divided into five chapters: the first one, from biology, is related to an increased mortality of marine animals due to the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico in 2010; in the second chapter, in a social context, we discuss the collective effect of lottery sales in the profile of the number of winners, a topic of significant interest in neuroscience and that can even be connected to biological systems; the chapters 3, 4 and 5 are dedicated to the study of the diffusion of epidemics in Brazil, such as HIV/AIDS and dengue fever, problems of large social interest.

Cada problema será abordado com diversos enfoques, condicionados, por sua vez, às características dos dados empíricos e de sua disponibilidade.
