Resumo: | The use of models to represent and explain a complex reality is a highly valuable strategy for science development in different fields of knowledge. In the specific case of forests, diametric distribution models can be used for prediction of forest production, aiding forest planning. Thus, the objective of this study was to apply and evaluate different procedures to predict growth and production of unthinned Eucalyptus stands in the northeast region of Bahia. A step-invariant diametric distribution model to predict horizontal and vertical structures and a model involving the distribution of truncated and non-truncated Weibull distribution were evaluated. The applicability of a step-invariant model to predict horizontal and vertical structures was evaluated. Then, the step-invariant procedure for the diametric distribution prediction was compared with the usual procedure to relate parameters of the probability function with stand features, using the truncated and non-truncated Weibull probability density function (pdf). Additionally, the obtained predictions were compared with the truncated and non-truncated Weibull pdf. The results demonstrated that the step -invariant procedure provided consistent and compatible predictions in all the performed simulations, being therefore its application recommended for the easiness of the methodology. The truncated Weibull function provided more efficient results to evaluate the present and future stand production when compared with the non-truncated function. |
