O estudo teve abordagem qualitativa, com fins descritivos e utilização de pesquisa bibliográfica. Adotou -se como recorte de pesquisa o uso dos artigos publicados na Revista de Administração Pública (RAP), tendo em vista sua adequação e representatividade com o tema e para a pesquisa. Concluiu-se que a pesquisa documental é uma importante técnica, que necessita de maior rigor e detalhamento e que seu uso ainda requer maior conhecimento por parte dos pesquisadores da área de Administração Pública.In order to understand the use of documentary research in publications in public administration in Brazil, held a mapping on its use in a major public administration journals in the country. The study had qualitative approach with descriptive purposes and use of bibliographical research. Adopted as clipping the use of research articles published in the Revista de Administração Pública (RAP), with a view to their suitability and representation with the theme and for research.
