Resumo: Euler s Flycatcher, Lathrotriccus euleri (Cabanis, 1868) (Tyrannidae, Fluvicolinae), was originally designated as Empidochanes and later as Empidonax, a genus with primarily north-american distribution. Biochemical and morphological studies of the syrinx of E. euleri withdrew it from the genus Empidonax and lead to the creation of a new genus, Lathrotriccus, where it was inserted. This genus is endemic of South America and has only two species, L. griseipectus e L. euleri. Euler s Flycatcher is an insectivorous species with dark grayish brown color, lighter belly, black maxilla and whitish jaw. In Viçosa and Poté counties, east of the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil, specimens of L. euleri with unpublished morphological differences have been found. The present study describes the phenotypic and molecular variability of L. euleri in eastern Minas Gerais, analyzing if it does exist as an individual variation within the group, or as an interespecific variation. Data collection was made mainly in municipality of Viçosa, which landscape is a mosaic of secondary Atlantic Forest fragments within an agricultural matrix. External morphology of live and taxidermized birds, as well as calls and molecular variations were characterized. These data were analyzed to verify their relationship to the color of the birds tongues. Lathrotriccus euleri showed little variation in plumage color and no significant difference in measurements among specimens with different tongue colors. Calls, although scarce, also have not shown significant variation among the two morphological types of L. euleri. DNA analysis using the RAPD-PCR techniques has not allowed taking apart the two morphological types of L. euleri in different groups. Only one specimen, from Santa Maria do Salto, which had orange tongue color, formed a distinct group from the others. According to these results the species has color polymorphism, presenting two morphs for tongue color, one pinkish and other orange.

According to these results the species has color polymorphism, presenting two morphs for tongue color, one pinkish and other orange.O enferrujado (Lathrotriccus euleri) (Tyrannidae, Fluvicolinae) foi descrito no gênero Empidochanes e posteriormente transferido para o gênero Empidonax, um táxon predominantemente norte-americano.
