Statistics Education and Mathematics Teacher Education: overview of Brazilian research findings

Resumo: | In this paper we show an overview of Brazilian research findings in Statistics Education and Mathematics teacher education (pre-service and in service), available in CAPES’ thesis database, seeking to understand what discussions have been privileged. As a documentary study, we did an interpretive analysis of 23 thesis and dissertations (1998-2011) and we identified five themes: (i) goals of Probability and Statistics; (ii) level of statistical literacy of Basic Education Mathematics teachers, (iii) impressions and teaching practices of Mathematics teachers related to Probability and Statistics, and (iv) Mathematics teacher education who will teach Probability and Statistics in Basic Education. The results indicate that there are few studies directly addressing Statistics Education in Mathematics teacher education and many aspects that need to be investigated. Due to these results, we present some themes that may guide and strengthen research in the field of Statistics Education. |

Due to these results, we present some themes that may guide and strengthen research in the field of Statistics Education.No presente artigo apresentamos um cenário de pesquisas brasileiras na área de Educação Estatística e formação de professores de Matemática, disponibilizadas no Banco de Teses da CAPES, na busca de compreender quais discussões têm sido privilegiadas. Enquanto estudo documental, realizamos uma análise interpretativa de 23 teses e dissertações (1998-2011) e identificamos quatro eixos temáticos: (i) objetivos para o ensino de Probabilidade e Estatística; (ii) nível de letramento estatístico de professores de Matemática da Educação Básica; (iii) impressões e práticas letivas de professores da Educação Básica quanto a Probabilidade e Estatística; e (iv) formação de professores de Matemática que ensinarão/ensinam Probabilidade e Estatística na Educação Básica. Os resultados indicam a existência de poucos trabalhos abordando diretamente Educação Estatística na formação de professores e diversos aspectos que necessitam ser investigados.
