A sociological description of complex society organizations through Giancarlo Corsi and Raffaele De Giorgi´s reflection on “South of Modernity”

Resumo: Having as its object the sociological description proposed by Giancarlo Corsi and Raffaele De Giorgi about what they call the “southern modernity”, this article intends, first of all, to explain the heterogeneous character they attribute to modernity in their treatment of the “meridional question” in Italy. The article then discusses how Corsi and De Giorgi, based on Niklas Luhmann’s systems theory, describe the specificity of communicative reproduction in the ‘southern modernity’. Once this is done, the consequences of this description on the functioning of organizations are analyzed. Finally, to conclude, the article points out that Corsi and De Giorgi’s treatment of the meridional question”, despite its problematic aspects, reveals a sophisticated management of systems theory for the understanding of organizations in social contexts distinct from those that constitute the direct empirical reference of this theoretical framework.

Em seguida, o artigo discute o modo pelo qual Corsi e De Giorgi, a partir da teoria dos sistemas de Niklas Luhmann, descrevem a especificidade da reprodução comunicativa no “sul da modernidade”. Feito isso, são analisadas as consequências decorrentes dessa descrição no funcionamento das organizações.
