Environmental Management Systems in The Pulp and Paper Industry

Resumo: At the currently moment companies tend to seek a differential to compete in the market, emerging the environment as one of them. Environmental quality norms surged in the manufacturing process of products and inputs, being the protection to consumer one of the main benefits of normalization, once it standardized requirements to establish the quality of products and services. ISO 14.001 offers guidelines for environmental management systems, using auditing as a tool for verifying the effectiveness of management systems. This research targeted to analyze the use of environmental auditing by the cellulose and paper companies as a supportive tool in environmental management, investigate the reasons of usage as well as the benefits generated by it along with ABTCP, BRACELPA and SINPASUL. This study shows that the cellulose and paper companies that have invested in the production ecologically correct are achieving good results, financially and competitive. It is clear in the research that independently of the size of the company these results can be achieved for all the companies by adopting environmental auditing.

Las normas de calidad ambiental en el proceso de fabricación de productos y suministros trajeron la protección al consumidor como un beneficio clave, gracias a requisitos que permiten evaluar la calidad de productos y servicios. La normalización ISO 14.001 proporciona directrices para los sistemas de gestión ambiental, con el uso de la auditoría como una herramienta para la verificación de la eficacia del sistema de gestión. El objetivo de esta investigación es analizar por qué razones la auditoría ambiental es usada en la industria de la pulpa y el papel y qué beneficios son generados, a partir de empresas de ABTCP, BRACELPA y SINPASUL. El estudio muestra que las empresas de celulosa y papel que han invertido en la producción respetuosa con el medio ambiente han obtenido buenos resultados, tanto financieros como competitivos. Se desprende de la investigación que, independientemente del tamaño de la empresa, estos resultados pueden ser alcanzados por todas las empresas con la adopción de la auditoría ambiental.No momento em que vivemos, as empresas tendem a buscar diferenciais para competir no mercado, aparecendo assim uma preocupação maior com o meio ambiente. Surgiram normas quanto à qualidade ambiental no processo de fabricação de produtos e insumos, sendo um dos principais benefícios da normalização a proteção ao consumidor, a partir de requisitos que permitem aferir a qualidade dos produtos e serviços. A norma ISO 14.001 fornece diretrizes para sistemas de gestão ambiental, utilizando a auditoria como instrumento de verificação da eficácia do sistema. O objetivo desta pesquisa é analisar o uso da auditoria ambiental na indústria de celulose e papel, as razões da utilização e os benefícios gerados, junto à Associação Brasileira Técnica de Celulose e Papel (ABTCP), Associação Brasileira de Celulose e Papel (BRACELPA) e Sindicato das Indústrias do Papel, Papelão e Cortiça do Rio Grande do Sul (SINPASUL). O estudo mostra que as empresas de celulose e papel que têm investido na produção ecologicamente correta vêm obtendo bons resultados, tanto financeiros como competitivos.
