The objective of this research is to analyze the risk factors associated with helicopter external load operations. It intends to prevent the possibilities of mitigation of the risks of accidents inherent to this type of operation and the increase of flight safety. The process adopted in the research was descriptive, through data analysis and relating them to operations. The approach was quantitative, with the use of graphics, as well as qualitative, through perceptions and analysis. The methods used were by interviews and field research. The nature of the research is applied, as it seeks the adequacy of procedures to mitigate the risks to this type of the flight operation. Considering the development of the SIPAER system, based on the philosophy of the trinomial "environment, men, and machine", flight safety is not easily translated into the accident / incident statistics, thus it is possible to dissect a subjective sense of security cited in interviews with the crews. There is an initial interest by the researcher to become familiar with the implications for flight safety in external load operations. Finally, the research concludes that a risk assessment should be conducted routinely because there are many variables that can affect the helicopter flight with external load.
