This paper presents an approach on the importance of the fuel trade sector in the country, the risks inherent to the sector, in relation to the health of the worker and the environment and complements with the case study of the implementation of the Regulatory Standard (NR) 20, from the Ministry of Labor and Employment (MTE), applied at a gas station. In order to audit the Station's Installation Record, as provided for in NR 20, a study of the requirements of the standard was carried out, the initial situation of the establishment was identified and a survey of the processes carried out and the diagnosed nonconformities was carried out, and subsequently a report was prepared. action plan to adapt the establishment to all requirements established by norm. All documentation related to the Installation Project, equipment and machines and their respective technical specifications, signage according to current regulations, operating procedures (SOPs), manuals for technical specification and operation of equipment, Inspection and Maintenance plans, Prevention and Control of leaks, spills, fires and explosions and identification of sources of fugitive emissions, Preliminary Analysis of Hazards / Risks of activities, Emergency response plan and proof of the training of workers. With the development of this study, it was possible to diagnose the difficulty of managers in raising awareness of the importance of implementing this standard and the lack of knowledge of those responsible for the sector, since, even when hiring an outsourced company to monitor operational safety, there must be knowledge and management by the establishment and employees to ensure health and safety at work and, consequently, sustainable development.
