Qualitative and quantitative evaluation in endodontics

Resumo: | This study proposes the creation of an electronic data bank to store quantitative and qualitative information related to endodontics at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Clinical registers were made on the Microsoft Visual Basic® platform to fulfill the needs of the practice of endodontics: clinical examination, daily procedures and root filling, as well as the image file. Students’ access to the application was possible by means of passwords. Thus, they were able to fill in all clinical registers related to the clinical case under treatment in a workstation. All images were digitalized, the patient’s return was scheduled for control purposes and the treatment was qualified by the teacher. Based on this information, it is possible to filter, classify and issue clinical reports, as well as images or graphs. Therefore, to attend to undergraduate or graduate students of endodontics may become easier, as well as to evaluate the student’s progress. The results obtained with 52 students who treated 587 patients led to the conclusion that the electronic data bank has increased possibilities for evaluation in endodontics teaching. |

Na plataforma Microsoft Visual Basic® foram criadas fichas clínicas que satisfizessem as necessidades da clínica endodôntica: exame clínico, procedimentos diários e obturações, além do arquivo de imagens. O acesso do aluno ao aplicativo era feito por meio de senha. Assim, ele preenchia todas as fichas clínicas relacionadas ao caso clínico em tratamento num terminal de computador. Todas as imagens eram digitalizadas, o retorno do paciente para controle era agendado e o tratamento qualificado pelo professor. Com base nas informações, é possível filtrar, classificar e emitir relatórios clínicos, de imagens ou gráficos. Assim, o acompanhamento dos alunos de um curso de graduação ou mesmo em cursos de extensão em Endodontia pode ser mais facilmente realizado e a evolução do aluno avaliada.
