Resumo: In the 1960s, in Portugal, João Cabral’s poetry became known to a broader reading audience, and his critical reception increased. In this process, the publication of Quaderna (1960) and Poemas Escolhidos (1963) is of great importance, as is the later staging of Morte e Vida Severina in Lisbon, Porto, and Coimbra by the Teatro da Universidade Católica de São Paulo (TUCA). Still in the 1960s, Cabral seems to impact other poets and creators of interest, signaling an exemplary creative path. Considering primarily this period, I propose to follow Alexandre O’Neill’s role as a reader and disseminator of João Cabral in Portugal.

También en los años 1960, Cabral parece impactar otros poetas y creadores de interés, al señalar un camino creativo ejemplar. Al considerar prioritariamente ese período, propongo acompañar el rol de Alexandre O’Neill como lector y difusor de João Cabral en Portugal.Na década de 1960, em Portugal, a poesia de João Cabral torna-se conhecida por um público leitor mais numeroso e sua recepção crítica amplia-se. Nesse processo, são de grande importância a publicação de Quaderna (1960) e dos Poemas Escolhidos (1963) e, posteriormente, a encenação, em Lisboa, Porto e Coimbra, de Morte e Vida Severina pelo grupo de Teatro da Universidade Católica de São Paulo, o TUCA. Também nos anos 1960, Cabral parece impactar outros poetas e criadores de interesse, sinalizando um caminho criativo exemplar.
