Resumo: | The spreading of diseases of the intestine are frequently associated with the population´s lack of knowledge. Current analysis evaluates knowledge of students in the municipality of Urutaí GO Brazil on intestine diseases which cause a high percentage of hospitalizations in the municipality. Cholera, typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever, salmonellosis, botulism, amoebiasis, balantidiasis, giardiasis and enteritis by adenovirus were identified through the data bank of the National Health System Databank (DATASUS). Students were evaluated by questionnaires on the etiological agent, transmission, symptoms, mechanism of the agent, preventive and prophylactic measures and treatment of identified intestinal illnesses. Ninety-three students from primary and secondary government schools in Urutaí GO Brazil participated. Analysis showed that, as a rule, they were ignorant or knew very little on intestinal diseases which caused hospitalizations in the municipality. The development of education processes that would promote in the students the acquisition of knowledge for the diseases´ prevention and control is required. |

The development of education processes that would promote in the students the acquisition of knowledge for the diseases´ prevention and control is required.
