Resumo: Cancer is an important health issue worldwide and is the second mortality cause in developed countries. It is a chronic multifactorial disease with the uncontrolled, fast and invasive growth of cells and the dissemination of abnormal cells that multiply themselves till a tumor, a mass of tissues, is formed. Current study analyzes the epidemiological profile and evaluates the nutritional condition of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy by a descriptive epidemiological study applied to 20 patients with cancer at a chemotherapy clinic of the University Hospital Emílio Carlos in Catanduva SP Brazil. Male and female patients, aged between 18 and 74 years were evaluated. Average age was 55 years and (60%) were females. Further, 40% were eutrophic patients and 50% had significant or serious weight loss. High and low digestive cancer types were the most frequent. Food most consumed consisted of rice, beans, bread, with a low daily intake of fruits and vegetables. Data reveal the characterization of the epidemiological and nutritional profile of the patients in the unit under analysis. It would be relevant for a professional to undertake a nutritional follow-up through a balanced diet and an improvement in life quality of the patients. Mortality rates may even be lowered.
