Resumo: The passages where the emotion comes to the fore in policy reveals the importance of pathos in the Aristotelian political thought. Passions are central to understanding the challenge of institution, conservation and development of polis, permanently at risk of dissolution. To politics, as practical knowledge, does not matter only knowing the good, but making it real. Whereas the good thing is that which saves, the first concern of political philosophy is to know what contributes to safeguard the polis, and what threatens and destroys it. This papers aims at the role of emotions in this processes.

As paixões são centrais para entender o desafio de instituição, conservação e desenvolvimento da polis, permanentemente em risco de dissolução. À política, como saber prático, não importa apenas conhecer o bem, mas atingi-lo. Considerando que o bem de uma coisa é aquilo que a conserva, a primeira preocupação da filosofia política está em saber o que contribui para salvaguardar a polis, e o que a ameaça e destrói.
