Resumo: Dentistry has changed a lot in recent times, due in part to new demands from patients and a greater appreciation for aesthetics. It is up to the Dental Surgeon to follow new trends and keep themselves up to date. This work aims to perform a literature review about the interrelationship of simultaneous treatments between tooth whitening and orthodontic treatment. The search was conducted through the electronic databases of the Bibliographic Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), via PubMed, Portal Periódicos - CAPES and Virtual Health Library (VHL), articles from the last five years in Portuguese and English were selected. The search for a white and aligned smile is growing more and more and the combination of simultaneous treatments may be a possibility. Performing a tooth whitening therapy during orthodontic treatment is not necessary, however, it can be an alternative to motivate and decrease the cases of discontinuation of the long treatment, although the effect of this practice needs further studies.

Como dever, cabe ao Cirurgião-Dentista acompanhar e se atualizar com as novas tendências. Esse trabalho tem como objetivo realizar uma revisão de literatura acerca da inter-relação de tratamentos simultâneos entre o clareamento dental e o tratamento ortodôntico. Foi realizado uma pesquisa através de uma busca eletrônica às bases bibliográficas Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), via PubMed, Portal Periódicos - CAPES e Biblioteca Virtual em Saúde (BVS), posteriormente foram selecionados artigos dos últimos cinco anos em português e inglês. A procura por um sorriso branco e alinhado vem crescendo cada vez mais e a junção de tratamentos simultâneos pode ser uma possibilidade.
