Practical archive organization: the experience of the discipline in the archival science degree at UNIRIO

Resumo: The undergraduate course in Archival Science at UNIRIO is the oldest in Brazil. Since its creation, it has had several curricular configurations, which has changed its configuration and consequently the professional that has been educated over more than sixty years. In the 1991 curriculum reform, the subject of Practical Archive Organization, commonly called OPA, was created. The aim of the paper is to analyze the teaching experience achieved through the Practical Archive Organization discipline, taught in the undergraduate course in Archivology at the Federal University of the State of Rio de Janeiro since 1991. The theoretical framework is based on some authors who worked on the issues of academic education professionals to work in archives. The research is exploratory and descriptive in nature with qualitative and quantitative approaches. It uses bibliographical research in the area’s literature, and documents, in the archive of the UNIRIO School of Archival Science. Data collection techniques include observation and questionnaires. The scope studied includes students, alumni of the course as well as teachers. The experiences are very positive, students report having contact with activities that they do not have the opportunity to experience in other circumstances and with practices that enrich their formation, leaving them more prepared to practice the profession.

Desde su creación ha tenido varias configuraciones curriculares, lo que ha cambiado su configuración y en consecuencia el profesional que se ha formado a lo largo de estos más de sesenta años. En la reforma curricular de 1991 se creó la asignatura de Organización Práctica de Archivos, comúnmente llamada OPA. El objetivo del trabajo es analizar la experiencia docente alcanzada a través de la disciplina Organización Práctica de Archivos, impartida en la carrera de Licenciatura en Archivología de la Universidad Federal del Estado de Río de Janeiro desde 1991. El marco teórico se basa en algunos autores que trabajaron sobre la cuestión de la formación de profesionales para trabajar en archivos. La investigación es de carácter exploratorio y descriptivo con enfoques cualitativos y cuantitativos. Utiliza investigaciones bibliográficas en la literatura del área, y documentales, en el archivo de la Escuela de Archivo UNIRIO. Las técnicas de recopilación de datos incluyen observación y cuestionarios. El universo estudiado incluirá estudiantes, exalumnos del curso, así como docentes. Las experiencias son muy positivas, los estudiantes reportan tener contacto con actividades que en otras circunstancias no tienen la oportunidad de vivir y con prácticas que enriquecen su formación, dejándolos más preparados para ejercer la profesión.O Curso de Graduação em Arquivologia da UNIRIO é o mais antigo do Brasil. Desde a sua criação já teve várias configurações curriculares, o que foi mudando a sua configuração e consequentemente do profissional que é formado ao longo destes mais de sessenta anos. Na reforma curricular de 1991, foi criada a disciplina de Organização Prática de Arquivo, comumente chamada de OPA. O trabalho tem como objetivo analisar a experiência de ensino alcançada por meio da disciplina Organização Prática de Arquivo, ministrada no Curso de graduação em Arquivologia da Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro desde 1991. O referencial teórico é baseado em alguns autores que trabalharam as questões de formação de profissionais para trabalhar nos arquivos. A pesquisa é de natureza exploratória e descritiva com abordagens qualitativas e quantitativas. Utiliza levantamento bibliográfico na literatura da área, e documental, no arquivo da Escola de Arquivologia da UNIRIO. Entre as técnicas de coletas de dados estão a observação e questionários. O universo estudado incluirá alunos, ex-alunos do curso bem como os professores.
