Resumo: | The stability parameters proposed by Lin & Binns (1988) method for yield of seed cotton were compared with the regression method proposed by Eberhart & Russell (1966). The experiments were composed by nine cultivars tested at randomized complete block design with six replicates carried out by CNPA in sixteen sites on Northeast Brazil in 1991 and 1992. The estimate comparison between the two methods was performed by Spearman rank correlation. The cultivars CNPA 6H and CNPA 85-241 showed high yields, β1 ≥ I, R2 > 95%, low values of Pi and contributed only with 2.1 and 3.5% of total interaction while the CNPA Giorge I was the more instable. The Spearman rank correlation between β1 and Pi in 1992 was -0.96 significative by t test (P ≤ 0,01) indicating that these parameters provided the same results. The advantage of Pi utilization is that there is no restriction on the independence of variables and also it indicates the materials with performance near the maximum value in different environments tested. |

Os ensaios foram compostos por nove cultivares em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com seis repetições, conduzidos pelo Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Algodão (CNPA) em 16 localidades da Região Nordeste, no período de 1991 a 1992. As comparações das estimativas entre os dois métodos foram efetuadas através da correlação classificatória de Spearman. As cultivares CNPA 6H e CNPA 85-241 obtiveram altas produtividades, valores de β1 ≥ I, R2 > 95%, baixos valores de Pi e contribuíram somente com 2,1 e 3,5% do total da interação, enquanto a CNPA Giorge I foi a mais instável. A correlação classificatória de Spearman entre β1 e Pi em 1992 foi de -0,96 significativo pelo teste t (P ≤ 0,01), indicando que esses parâmetros forneceram os mesmos resultados.
