Genetic parameters and environment effects related to calving intervals in a Jersey herd

Resumo: A total of 1799 calving intervals from 366 Jersey cows sired by 28 bulls, from 1953 to 1977 were analysed. The analysis of variance, through the least square method showed a significant effect of the year of parturition (P<0.01) and sire (P<0.05). However, month and order of parturition were not significant. The least square mean of calving intervals was 429.3 ± 3.8 days. The heritability and repeatability estimates were 0.05 ± 0.03 and 0.17 ± 0.02, respectively.

A análise de variância, pelo método dos quadrados mínimos, mostrou efeitos significativos de ano de parição (P<0,01) e touro (P<0,05); todavia, o mês de parição e ordem do intervalo não foram estatisticamente significativos. A média ajustada do intervalo entre panos foi de 429,3 ± 3,8 dias. A estimativa da herdabilidade, calculada pela correlação intra-classe das vacas meias-irmãs paternas foi de 0,05 ± 0,03.
