Phytogeography of feijoa in the Planalto Serrano Catarinense region

Resumo: Feijoa (Acca sellowiana) is a native fruit occurring abundantly in the Planalto Serrano Catarinenseregion. This study was carried out in order to characterize the phytogeography of feijoa and to assess its biological interaction in the natural occurrence ecosystem. Twenty-six scientific excursions were carried out over the Planalto Serrano Catarinense region during 2004/05 and comprised 159 sample points with presence of feijoa.This specie was found in altitudes ranging between 715 and 1.692m with higher frequency between 900 and 1.300m. Forest with Araucaria angustifolia was the typical plant community. More than 50% of feijoa plants were located inside “capões” at the shadow position. Soil fertility surrounding feijoa plants showed high potassium and low phosphorus levels.

Este trabalho teve o objetivo de estudar a fitogeografia da goiabeira serrana nosecossistemas “capões”. O estudo foi feito em nove municípios da Região do Planalto Serrano Catarinense, compreendendo 159 pontos amostrados e distribuídos em 26 capões. Os resultados mostraram que exemplares de goiabeira serrana foram localizados entre 715 e 1.692m de altitude, sendo a maior freqüência entre 900 e a 1.300m de altitude. A tipologia vegetal predominante na presença de Acca sellowiana era a mata de araucária, na posição de encostas com declividade acima de 16%. Mais de 50% dos exemplares de goiabeira serrana localizaramse na parte interna do capão, na posição de sombra. Solos apresentavam pH próximo a 5,0 com elevado teor de potássio.
