Society is experiencing an unprecedented health crisis, with COVID-19, in the 21st century. In parallel, the environment remains far from the respect translated by the legislator in the Brazilian legal system. Meanwhile, the Política Nacional de Educação Ambiental, which deals with the processes by which the individual and the community are able to build social values, knowledge, skills, attitudes and competences aimed at environmental conservation, published in 1999, still faces the challenge of becoming a reality in a dual and polarized scenario, which makes it difficult to establish an intermediate position capable of building bridges to a sustainable future. From this perspective, the question investigated is: what is the role of prudence for an adequate environmental legal education of law students? The relevance of prudential teaching, as a didactic tool for an adequate environmental legal education, is based on the establishment of bonds and limits between human beings and nature, based on the ethics of understanding, in the scenario of complexity. This is descriptive and exploratory research, with a bibliographic and documentary nature, based on the hypothetical-deductive method. It is concluded that prudential legal education is capable of contributing to the formation of conscious, motivated social actors capable of promoting effective changes towards environmental balance and sustainable development.
