The development of collective autonomy in solidarity economy enterprises: a study of two cases considered models in Brazil and Spain

This paper analyzes the development of collective autonomy at solidarity economy enterprises. It is known that this process is compounded by two dialectically related dimensions: those of the practice, which refers to the way enterprise arranges its routine through procedures and norms, and those of the experience, a term that alludes to the way subjects live their social relations (specially labor ones) on which they are inserted and may serve as a parameter for future actions. This research seeks to answer the following question: how the solidarity economy ventures can determine autonomous practices in order to establish a new relationship between the workers and their work? In order to answer the propounded question, two case studies were performed: one at a manufacturing cooperative in Porto Alegre (Brazil) and the other at a social-services cooperative in Bilbao (Spain).
