Resumo: This paper presents an analysis of a literature about family farming. Specifically, it aims to investigate organic family farmers, who are located in the city of São Paulo and adjacencies, know tools of financial management and strategic planning and if they use these tools in the management of their business. It compares modern agriculture system and family farming model, in order to emphasize the importance of family farming as a model of production more sustainable and effective in ensuring food security, based on analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of the type of business.
