Distance education and training of users of university libraries: as perceived by academics

Resumo: | The assessment of the degree of satisfaction of academics to conduct training for the use of information sources in academic libraries is an important factor to be considered in planning activities. This article aims to present the views of academics in relation to the first distance learning course on standardization of scientific studies and research in databases developed by the Technical Division of Library and Documentation Unesp-Botucatu-Rubião Junior Campus and the Center for Distance Education and Information Technology in Health, Faculty of Medicine of Botucatu. The course took place from August to November 2009, distributed in 10 classes. For the collection of opinions, was drafted a semi structured questionnaire consisting of eight questions. It was found that all students already had experience with the methodology adopted, the staff of the Faculty of Medicine and graduate students are the ones who attended the course, 60% of students accessed the platform two to three times per week using both personal computers as that in their workplaces. This experience shows that distance education can greatly contribute to the training of users of university libraries. |

This experience shows that distance education can greatly contribute to the training of users of university libraries.A avaliação do grau de satisfação dos acadêmicos ao realizarem treinamentos para o uso de fontes informacionais em bibliotecas universitárias é um importante fator a ser considerado no planejamento das atividades. Esse artigo tem como objetivo relatar a opinião dos acadêmicos em relação ao primeiro curso à distância sobre normalização de trabalhos científicos e pesquisas em bases de dados desenvolvido pela Divisão Técnica de Biblioteca e Documentação da Unesp-Campus Botucatu-Rubião Junior e o Núcleo de Educação a Distância e Tecnologias da Informação em Saúde da Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu. O curso ocorreu no período de agosto a novembro de 2009, distribuído em 10 aulas. Para a coleta de opiniões foi elaborado um questionário semi-estruturado composto por oito questões. Verificou-se que todos os alunos já possuíam experiência com a metodologia adotada; os funcionários da Faculdade de Medicina e os alunos de pós-graduação foram os que mais participaram do curso; 60% dos alunos acessavam a plataforma duas a três vezes por semana usando tanto os computadores pessoais como os existentes em seus locais de trabalho. Essa experiência demonstra que a educação a distância pode contribuir fortemente para o treinamento de usuários de bibliotecas universitárias.
