Resumo: This article proposes a comparative reading of two different ethnographic collections - a set of audio recordings made by the linguist Lorenzo Dow Turner and a series of photographs taken by the anthropologist Ruth Landes - from different point of views. Being the result of fieldwork travels in Brazil, respectively in 1941 and 1938-9, the two collections were used on a research carried out in 2003 in which the meanings traditionally attributed to archive sources of this kind were reinterpreted. On the base of these experiences this article discusses some implications of the meanings of ethnographic archives and their possible uses in fieldwork and ethnography.

Resultantes de viagens de campo ao Brasil feitas pelo lingüista em 1941 e pela antropóloga em 1938-39, sua utilização foi compartilhada por outros interlocutores a partir de uma experiência etnográfica realizada em 2003, na qual alguns significados tradicionalmente atribuídos a fontes arquivísticas dessa natureza foram reinterpretados.
