Resumo: | The health market is going through a period of reconfiguration of its structure with investments in all areas of this sector. The entry of investors into an environment historically controlled by families and doctors means that more advanced levels of management are required with the objective of greater return on capital. The entry of several competitors in the sector on the Brazilian stock exchange in the last two years, drew the attention of several financial specialists regarding the leverage of value generation associated with this relatively new market in the eyes of investors. We can observe different formats of health business models such as verticalized operations, in which health plans have their own assets for the provision of patient care, and non-vertical operations in which health plans work with market service providers so that service to its beneficiaries. Recent mergers and acquisitions have the ultimate objective of finding the best configuration to respond to the problems of high health costs, exorbitant prices for beneficiaries and the inability of the system to absorb such costs through efficient waste management. The present dissertation has the main goal of evaluating the variables linked to the generation of value of health plans in the last 10 years, including the pandemic period, and thus inferring which are the most important levers in the structuring of health plans capable of generating value in this marketplace. |

A entrada de investidores em um ambiente historicamente controlado por famílias e médicos faz com que níveis mais avançados de gestão sejam exigidos com objetivo de maior rentabilização do capital. A entrada de diversos competidores do setor na bolsa de valores brasileira, nos últimos dois anos, chamou a atenção de diversos especialistas financeiros quanto às possibilidades de geração de valor, associadas a esse mercado relativamente novo aos olhos dos investidores. Podemos observar diversos formatos de modelos de negócios em saúde, como operações verticalizadas, nas quais os planos de saúde possuem seus próprios ativos para a prestação de assistência ao paciente e operações não verticalizadas nas quais os planos de saúde trabalham com prestadores de serviços de mercado para que haja atendimento aos seus beneficiários. Os recentes movimentos de fusões e aquisições possuem por objetivo final, encontrar a melhor configuração para dar uma resposta aos problemas de elevados custos na saúde, de preços altos aos beneficiários e de incapacidade do sistema de absorver tais custos, através de uma gestão eficiente de desperdícios. A presente dissertação possui o objetivo de avaliar as variáveis ligadas à geração de valor dos planos de saúde nos últimos 10 anos, incluindo o período de pandemia, e dessa forma inferir quais as alavancas mais importantes na estruturação de planos de saúde capazes de gerar valor nesse mercado. Concluímos nesse estudo que as operações verticalizadas geraram mais valor que as não verticalizadas nos últimos anos, que a métrica de qualidade IDSS não possui correlação com a geração de valor e Recent mergers and acquisitions have the ultimate objective of finding the best configuration to respond to the problems of high health costs, exorbitant prices for beneficiaries and the inability of the system to absorb such costs through efficient waste management. The present dissertation has the main goal of evaluating the variables linked to the generation of value of health plans in the last 10 years, including the pandemic period, and thus inferring which are the most important levers in the structuring of health plans capable of generating value in this marketplace. |
