O computador na escola: um exame de uma prática

This study intended to contribute for a better understanding of the informatization process in the schools of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, centering on a dimension little explored: the possible organizational changes in consequence of the microcomputer i ntroduction. This subject has been introduced in this essay through the contextualization of some pedagogical, historical, economical, political and social dimensions that intermingles the intricate fabric of the educational informatization. For its development, we adapted the proposal of Shirley (1976) for the inquiry of organizational changes and employed some analysis categories based on Sheingold et alI. (1983). This research has been made in a school on the west zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro. It may be said as a case study with exploratory character. We used the non participant observation, standard and not standard i nterviews , fills and documental essay. The results about the strategies of change used for the organization were the following: were not discernible the rising of new roles, the regular training of the teacher was very limited, the access of the microcomputer was restricted to the children of the fundamental course. The coordination system was centralized and the power distribution hierarchic, with strong submission to the owner family. The teachers participation, although just requested by the coordination , was in fact imposed by the board. The software adopted was the LOGO, used besides of the children speech analysis. The results synthesis reveals the growing process of educational commercialism in Brazil and the use of computer as a new attractive for the ingress of new pupils. According to the above related, emerges the need of additional researches to corroborate the pedagogical pertinence of the computer use or to prove its commercial significance, in schools obsessed by the profit.
