Resumo: Countercurrent chromatography technique is presented here as a tool for the fast, efficient and economic preparation of highly pure standard compounds from plant origin. Some aspects concerning solvent systems choice as well as examples of the isolation and purification of pure natural compounds of pharmaceutical importance, such as flavonoids from Ginkgo biloba, saponins from Centella asiatica and Ginseng, anthraquinones, etc., are discussed.
