Resumo: The use of plants with medicinal and alimentary objectives is a common practice for the Brazilian population. Among these, it can be mentioned “guavira” that is used in the form of juices, jellies, liqueurs, and ice creams and leaves tea for diarrhea treatment. In spite of that, this plant is little explored about their pharmacological and toxicological aspect. Based in the exposed above, becomes necessary to investigate the several medicinal properties presented by this species. Seek to reveal their pharmacological properties, as well as, their toxic properties, in order to turn the use of that more rational and safe. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the toxic effect of Campomanesia pubescens (DC.) O. Berg. (Myrtaceae), using for this, sanguine dosages of animals treated with ethanolic extract in the concentrations of 250 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg, daily, through gavage for ninety days. In these samples possible biochemical and hematological changes were investigated. However, the animals control presented alterations in the Aspartate transaminase and Alanine transaminase enzymes, what did not observed in treated animals. Furthermore, monocyte number was increased in the control group when compared to the reference values, but these values were significantly reduced in the groups of animals treated with the extract. Wherefore, the results suggest that the ethanolic extract of C. pubescens was effective in reducing the number of monocytes, indicating a possible anti-inflammatory effect. Thus, is important a new studies that can evidence possible pharmacological actions of this plant, that is very used by the local population.

Thus, is important a new studies that can evidence possible pharmacological actions of this plant, that is very used by the local population.O uso de plantas tanto com o objetivo curativo quanto alimentício sempre foi uma prática comum pela população brasileira. Centro de Inovação em Biodiversidade e Saúde - Farmanguinhos/Fiocruz2010-06-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdftext/htmlhttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/11510.32712/2446-4775.2010.115Revista Fitos; Vol. 5 No. 02 (2010); 64-72Revista Fitos; Vol. 5 Núm. 02 (2010); 64-72Revista Fitos; v. 5 n. 02 (2010); 64-722446-47751808-9569reponame:Revista Fitosinstname:Fundação Oswaldo Cruz (FIOCRUZ)instacron:FIOCRUZporhttps://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/115/114https://revistafitos.far.fiocruz.br/index.php/revista-fitos/article/view/115/1205Copyright (c) 2010 Revista Fitos Eletrônicainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessGuerrero, F.
