Resumo: This article aims to present the main paths and impasses regarding the deinstitutionalization process in four cities in Greater Vitória, in Brazil. The described scenario occurred through operationalized research with the use of focus groups formed by workers from the Psychosocial Care Network. After the content analysis, deinstitutionalization from the perspective of Psychosocial Care Centers and Residential Therapeutic Services, as well as other important subthemes, such as the care network and the centrality of psychiatric hospitalization in the care process, resulted as themes. We consider that, despite the structural difficulties of the network, there is the engagement of many of these professionals in the work processes and we emphasize the importance of resistance in the fight for the guarantee of the Psychiatric Reform to ensure, in fact, the process of deinstitutionalization.

El escenario descrito se produjo a través de la investigación operativa con el uso de grupos focales formados por trabajadores de la Red de Atención Psicosocial. Después del análisis de contenido, resultó como temática la desinstitucionalización en la perspectiva de los Centros de Atención Psicosocial y en la de los Servicios Terapéuticos Residenciales, así como otros subtemas importantes, como la red de atención y la centralidad de la hospitalización psiquiátrica en el proceso de cuidado. Consideramos que, a pesar de las dificultades estructurales de la red, existe la participación de muchos de estos profesionales en los procesos de trabajo y enfatizamos la importancia de la resistencia en la lucha por la garantía de la Reforma Psiquiátrica para garantizar, de hecho, el proceso de desinstitucionalización.Este artigo teve como objetivo apresentar os principais caminhos e impasses acerca do processo de desinstitucionalização em quatro cidades da Grande Vitória, no estado do Espírito Santo. O panorama descrito ocorreu por meio de pesquisa operacionalizada com o uso de grupos focais formados por trabalhadores da Rede de Atenção Psicossocial. Após a análise de conteúdo, resultaram como temáticas a desinstitucionalização na perspectiva dos Centros de Atenção Psicossociais e na dos Serviços Residenciais Terapêuticos além de outros importantes subtemas como a rede de atenção e a centralidade da internação psiquiátrica no processo de cuidado.
