Llibrarian professional ethics evidenced in discourses in Spanish and Brazilian scientific journals

The set of discursive representation issues relating to ethics in Brazilian and Spanish Librarianship and Information Science scientific production is the focus of this study that results from the analysis of these knowlegde field journals. It was aimed to know the philosophical and doctrinaire foundations, the themes, approaches and tendencies of the ethical discussion in Brazilian and Spanish Librarianship and Information Science periodic production in order to build a comparative evaluation outline of this theme in both countries. Methodologically the work involved an instrumental method that allowed the collection of textual data and their processing through the analysis of discourses. For that, Fernando Lefèvre and Ana Maria Cavalcanti Lefèvre’s Discourse of the Collective Subject technique was used. The results of the study show that the discussion on the theme in Brazil and in Spain during the study period was convergent in relation to the Doctrines and/or Ethics Currents that predominated in the texts, besides the foundations, themes, approaches and discussion tendencies on the ethical subjects. It is concluded that Ethics is a rarely approached theme in the researched sources, although it is noticed a real concern on the part of some professionals who write and publish on the subject. The identified themes correspond to the society and the professionals of information interests. They are relevant study issues and should be included in the discussions regarding to the formation process of such professionals.
