Resumo: Oncotic cytology, also known as cervical screening, Pap smear or Pap smear, is the main strategy of choice in Brazil for early screening of cervical cancer and infectious diseases. The aim of this study was to highlight the importance of carrying out cytological examinations in primary care based on scientific productions in the health field. This is an integrative review of the literature, of a descriptive nature. The primary research sources were articles obtained through data search. The secondary research sources consisted of the SciELO, LILACS and Google Scholar databases. The search took place from February to May 2023. The results were prepared through a literature search in the selected databases, obtaining the most relevant articles that provide information on the topic, published between 2017 and March 2023. Carrying out this research allowed us to understand the importance of carrying out cytological exams in primary care, highlighting the prevention of cervical cancer and the diagnosis of this pathology and sexually transmitted infections, such as HPV. It is also clear that there are major challenges in the population's adherence to this exam, as there is perplexity, misinformation and lack of access to health units to implement preventive measures and monitor patients.

Specialized Dentistry Group2024-01-05info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/119610.36557/2674-8169.2024v6n1p195-211Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 No. 1 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 195-211Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; Vol. 6 Núm. 1 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 195-211Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences ; v. 6 n. 1 (2024): BJIHS QUALIS B3; 195-2112674-8169reponame:Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciencesinstname:Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)instacron:GOEporhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/article/view/1196/1366Copyright (c) 2024 Victor Hugo Júlio da Rosa, Thiago Ruam Nascimento, Maria Kéren Ribeiro Sousa, Juliana Moreira de Souza Araújo, Ana Luiza Rilko Mattar, Camila Eduarda Barbosa Gomes, Cristina Lobato, Poliana Milanez Rodrigues de Mendonça, Lorena Cristine Santos Sousa, Rodrigo da Silva Bezerra, Bruna Tomé Borges, Vitória Caroline Ramos Fonseca https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessRosa, Victor Hugo Júlio daNascimento, Thiago RuamSousa, Maria Kéren RibeiroAraújo, Juliana Moreira de SouzaMattar, Ana Luiza Rilko Gomes, Camila Eduarda BarbosaLobato, CristinaMendonça, Poliana Milanez Rodrigues deSousa, Lorena Cristine SantosBezerra, Rodrigo da SilvaBorges, Bruna ToméFonseca , Vitória Caroline Ramos2024-01-05T14:31:26Zoai:ojs.bjihs.emnuvens.com.br:article/1196Revistahttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihsONGhttps://bjihs.emnuvens.com.br/bjihs/oaijournal.bjihs@periodicosbrasil.com.br2674-81692674-8169opendoar:2024-01-05T14:31:26Brazilian Journal of Implantology and Health Sciences - Grupo de Odontologia Especializada (GOE)false
