PROFILE OF EMERGENCY DENTAL CARE AT CENTRO UNIVERSITÁRIO UNINOVAFAPI

Introduction: Dental emergency consists of quick and effective care for problems with symptoms, trauma, infections and even aesthetic impairment in the oral cavity. The Extension Project “Emergency Dental Care of the Integrated Health Center-CIS of the Uninovafapi University Center is part of the curricular component of the 10th period of the degree. It is aimed at the community of Teresina-PI and the region that presents pain of dental origin. Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the profile of emergency dental care at the Integrated Health Center-CIS of the Uninovafapi University Center. Material and Methods: A retrospective, quantitative and cross-sectional study was carried out based on the analysis of 239 medical records of patients treated in the dental emergency sector from 2016 to 2021, with approval from the Research Ethics Committee. Results: There was a predominance of female patients (60.7%), aged between 20-29 years (32.7%) and the most prevalent complaint was pain (80.4%); As for the diagnosis, irreversible pulpitis prevailed (33%) and the most common treatment was coronary opening associated with medication (54.8%). Conclusion: These data obtained can support planning to promote improved quality and expansion of care, as well as offering health actions with extension activities and services that better serve the population.
