PSYCHOLOGICAL HARM CAUSED BY DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

INTRODUCTION: Domestic violence against women (DVW) is currently considered a public health problem because it covers a significant portion of victims and causes various damages to physical and mental health and consequently directly affects the quality of life of these women. OBJECTIVE: To identify the psychological damage caused by domestic violence against women. METHODOLOGY: The research was developed with a quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive approach, in which the data were collected from the questionnaires completed by the 5 psychologists who attended the unit during the chosen study period. RESULTS: After analyzing the data collected, it was possible to verify through the professionals the psychological damages presented by the victims, namely: anxiety, insomnia, low self-esteem, depression, fear, insecurity, panic attacks, emotional dependence, social isolation, post-traumatic stress disorder and eating disorders. CONCLUSION: It was found that VDCM affects several women and causes psychological damage that impairs health and life.
