Resumo Este estudo teve por objetivo apreender e colocar em perspectiva o significado e as contribuições advindas da informação, em termos de relações, cuidados e manuseios dispensados às crianças que apresentam diagnóstico de paralisia cerebral, tendo  como centralidade  as  experiências  maternas. Conduziu-se a pesquisa por meio da combinação de métodos quantitativos e qualitativos e foram utilizadas, para a concretização e a obtenção dos dados, a pesquisa documental, a observação participante e a entrevista semiestruturada. A informação tornou-se um subsídio fundamental no processo de conscientização da condição de saúde do filho; na aprendizagem e na superação das dificuldades. Notadamente, as contribuições da informação revelaram-se de grande valia nos cuidados dispensados aos filhos, bem como na aquisição e adoção de mecanismos que promovem a integração social da criança.  Percebeu-se, ainda, que a visualização da rede de interações tecidas por essas mulheres-mães na defesa da cidadania, além de apresentar a posição de centralidade dos filhos, aponta o componente informacional que está subjacente às manifestações de solidariedade em rede.Palavras-chaves paralisia cerebral; maternidade; rede; Ciência da InformaçãoAbstract The aim of this study was to understand and place in perspective the meaning and contributions of information to the relationships with and the care and handling of children diagnosed with cerebral palsy, focusing on the mothers’ experiences. Research combined quantitative and qualitative methods, in which semi-structured interviews and participative observation were used to collect the data. Information became a fundamental tool in the process of increasing awareness concerning their children’s health; in learning and overcoming difficulties. The information was extremely valuable as it contributed, especially, to the care given to the children and also to the acquisition and adoption of mechanisms that promote their social integration. It was also observed that the visualization of the interaction network weaved by these women-mothers – in order to protect the citizenship – besides presenting the central position occupied by their children, also accentuates the informational component subjacent to manifestations of solidarity in a network.Keywords cerebral palsy; motherhood; network;  Information Science
