READING, TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING MATHEMATICAL TEXTS FOR DEAF STUDENTS

Resumo: This article aims to investigate how reading occurs, translation and comprehension of mathematical texts for deaf students. These processes are of great importance for these students achieve success in school, especially in math learning. A proper reading depends on the interpretation of mathematical texts that need to be translated into natural language of the deaf, the Brazilian Sign Language (Libras). The effective inclusion of these students in school depends, among other factors, on communication strategies established by teachers that include the use of different languages, such as Mathematical language, Portuguese language and Libras. In this sense, we analyze this problem through a literature search from the philosophy of Wittgenstein and some educators who are dedicated to teaching and learning of mathematics and education of deaf students..

Esses processos são de grande importância para esses alunos obterem êxito na escola, principalmente na aprendizagem da matemática. Uma leitura adequada depende da interpretação de textos matemáticos que precisam ser traduzidos para a linguagem natural dos surdos, a Língua Brasileira de Sinais (Libras). A inclusão efetiva desses alunos na escola depende, entre outros fatores, de estratégias de comunicação estabelecidas pelos professores que incluam o uso de diferentes linguagens, tais como: linguagem matemática, língua portuguesa e Libras.
