Additive Manufacturing in the context of clothing: obstacles and theoretical reflections

This article aims to establish a framework (theoretical framework) about the barriers to the popularization of additive manufacturing in the field of clothing. Methodologically, the research developed can be classified as descriptive, basic, qualitative and bibliographical research. As a data collection instrument, a narrative and unsystematic literature review was used. Based on the above, the impediments found were classified into six categories: (I) material characteristics; (II) piracy; (III) technical training; (IV) access to fab labs; (V) costs; and (VI) printing processes. For each category, recommendations were established with an emphasis on overcoming obstacles and minimizing the risk to innovation.
