Identification of the most frequent nursing diagnosis for patients affected by leprosy

Resumo: The objective of this study was to identify the most frequent nursing diagnosis for patients affected by leprosy, based on the Nursing Diagnosis Classification of the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA). It is a retrospective, descriptive, exploratory study which was accomplished at Instituto Lauro de Souza Lima (ILSL), Bauru, São Paulo State, from September 1st, 2001 to August 31st, 2003. The sample was composed of 51 medical files in which ten nursing diagnosis were indentified as follow: 100% Risk for infection, Impaired skin integrity, Risk for impaired skin integrity, Risk for trauma; 98,03% Risk for loneliness; 96,07% Social isolation and Risk for constipation; 94,11% Pain acute; 90,19% Imbalanced nutrition: less than body requirements and88,23% Impaired dentition. It was concluded that these ten nursing diagnosis are part of the minimum nursing process for patients affected by leprosy. Specific nursing diagnosis that individualize such patients were found as well and are part of the minimum nursing process. They are as follow: Impaired tissue integrity (50%); Mobility impaired (33,33%); Risk for disuse syndrome (19,04%); Self-care deficit and Ineffective protection (11,90%).

A amostra foi constituída de 51 prontuários nos quais foram identificados 10 diagnósticos de enfermagem, sendo eles: 100% Risco para infecção, Integridade da pele prejudicada, Risco para integridade da pele prejudicada, Risco para trauma; 98,03% Risco para solidão; 96,07% Isolamento Social e Risco para Constipação; 94,11% Dor; 90,19 % Nutrição alterada menos que as necessidades corporais e 88,23% Dentição alterada. Concluí-se que estes dez diagnósticos de enfermagem fazem parte dos padrões mínimos de assistência de enfermagem para pacientes afetados pela hanseníase. Também foram encontrados diagnósticos de enfermagem específicos, que individualizam a assistência de enfermagem a estes pacientes, e acrescentados ao impresso dos padrões mínimos.
