Resumo: | Environmental issues have been widely discussed lately due to changes in population growth, which lead to ecological imbalance, deterioration of ecosystems and scarcity of natural resources. In this context, the need to raise awareness among citizens through environmental education arises. This study aims to evaluate the fate of solid waste and the water and food wastage in the municipality of Cametá, in the state of Pará. Fourth and fifth grade students from a municipal school system took part in this quali-quantitative research by answering a questionnaire. There were disparities in the answers given by the fourth and fifth grade students; however, the data show there is a common reality afoot at the Amazon; there are difficulties that reach particularly the handling of waste, the sewage treatment and the increase in the consumption of industrialized foods in the communities. The environmental education activities served the aim of raising awareness regarding the wastage of food and water, the final fate of waste and the importance of maintaining healthy habits. |

En este contexto, surge la necesidad de la concientización de los ciudadanos por medio de la educación ambiental. El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar el destino de residuos, el desperdicio de agua y de alimentos en el municipio de Cametá, estado de Pará. La investigación fue realizada con alumnos del 4º y del 5º año de una escuela de la red municipal de enseñanza, mediante estudio cuali-cuantitativo con el uso de cuestionario. Se identificó que existen disparidades en las respuestas entre los alumnos del 4º y 5º año. Sin embargo, los datos demuestran una realidad común en la Amazonia. Son observadas dificultades sobre el manejo de los basurales, falta de tratamiento de alcantarillado y aumento del consumo de alimentos industrializados en las comunidades. Con las actividades de educación ambiental, se buscó concientizar sobre el desperdicio de alimentos y agua, la destinación final de los residuos y la importancia de hábitos saludables.As questões ambientais têm sido amplamente discutidas na atualidade, em virtude das mudanças no crescimento populacional, que acarretaram desequilíbrio ecológico, deterioração dos ecossistemas e escassez de recursos naturais. Nesse contexto, surge a necessidade da conscientização dos cidadãos por meio da educação ambiental. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o destino de resíduos, o desperdício de água e o de alimentos no município de Cametá, estado do Pará. A pesquisa foi realizada com alunos do 4º e do 5º ano de uma escola da rede municipal de ensino, mediante estudo quali-quantitativo com utilização de questionário. Identificou-se que existem disparidades nas respostas entre os alunos de 4º e 5º ano. Contudo, os dados apresentados demonstram uma realidade comum vivenciada na Amazônia. São observadas dificuldades principalmente quanto ao manejo dos resíduos, à falta de tratamento de esgoto e ao aumento do consumo de alimentos industrializados nas comunidades. Com as atividades de educação ambiental, procurou-se conscientizar sobre o desperdício de alimentos e água, a destinação final dos resíduos e a importância de hábitos saudáveis.
