Recent competition increase of Paraná state furniture industry

Resumo: This paper seeks to provide an assessment of the performance of the furniture industry of Paraná applying the “fast search method” with the analysis of performance indicators derived from secondary data and interviews with key actors of the furniture production chain and the Local Productive Arrangements for the drivers of competitiveness. The article reveals that the furniture industry of the state partially followed the evolution of the domestic furniture industry in the last decade, but three indicators had limited results: the cost of manufacturing operations, the gap in productivity and industrial diversification in lines of furniture for export. It is argued that the improvement of these indicators can be achieved through actions in the strategic drivers of competitiveness, indicated by the text in inputs and production factors, technology, businessmanagement, distribution and marketing and institutional environment.

O artigo revela que a indústria paranaense de móveis acompanhou parcialmente a evolução da indústria moveleira nacional na última década; porém, três indicadores apresentaram resultados limitados: os custos das operações industriais, o hiato da produtividade industrial e a diversificação nas linhas de móveis para exportação.
