Resumo: | Objective: To identify the risk factors that can contribute to the development of the syndrome in health professionals working in intensive care units. Methods: This is an integrative literature review, based on the search strategy in the following databases: SciELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences, and Medline (Medical Literature Analitics and Retrieval System Online). Results: The final sample was composed of five studies published between January 2010 and August 2023, from the SciELO and Medline bases. The prevalence of the syndrome varied with the professional category, sex, age, educational level and marital status, being more prevalent in females. The existence of risk factors such as the number of patients assisted and the possibility of complications, excessive noise, dealing with suffering and death, care for terminal patients and insufficient remuneration, favored the development of the syndrome. Conclusion: The coexistence of personal, organizational, social and work factors that constitute a risk for the development of burnout syndrome, place health professionals working in the ICU in vulnerability in the face of the development of the syndrome. The adoption of coping measures prove to be beneficial. |
