Resumo: The birth of a premature baby, and its subsequent loss can generate in the parents’ feelings of anguish and impotence in the face of this loss. This study aimed to investigate the difficulties encountered in the process of maternal mourning and the psychological resources used by bereaved mothers to confront the process. This is a qualitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study with multiple case studies. A semi-structured interview was used, in which two women who experienced the loss of their preterm infants up to 30 days of life participated. Data analysis was based on content analysis. The results presented indicate that the experience of mourning in the circumstances given due to the loss is a significant process, and despite the suffering, both participants could elaborate their mourning from their internal resources, as well as family support and psychological treatment.

Por el presente trabajo se buscó comprender cómo ocurre la vivencia del luto materno, así como investigar cuáles son las dificultades y los recursos psicológicos que auxilian el enfrentamiento del luto. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa, de delineamiento descriptivo y transversal, con estudio de casos múltiples, donde se utilizó una entrevista semiestructurada, en la que participaron dos mujeres que experimentaron la pérdida de sus bebés prematuros con hasta 30 días de vida. Los resultados presentados indican que la vivencia del luto frente a las condiciones experimentadas por la pérdida es un proceso significativo, y, a pesar del sufrimiento, ambas participantes pudieron elaborar su luto a partir de sus recursos internos, además del amparo familiar y de la aproximación con la actuación del profesional psicólogo.O nascimento de um bebê prematuro e posteriormente sua morte, pode gerar nos pais sentimentos de angústia e impotência perante esta perda inesperada. Pelo presente trabalho buscou-se compreender como ocorre a vivência do luto materno bem como investigar quais as dificuldades e os recursos psicológicos que auxiliam o enfrentamento do luto. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, de delineamento descritivo e transversal, com estudo de casos múltiplos, onde foi utilizada uma entrevista semiestruturada, em que participaram duas mulheres que vivenciaram a perda de seus bebês prematuros com até 30 dias de vida.
