Este estudo analisa a revolta indígena do Engenho de Santana, Capitania de Ilhéus, em 1602, refletindo sobre as formas de resistência adotadas, as relações de aliança construídas, seus objetivos e os resultados de sua ocorrência.  Por outro lado, avalia também a reação do governo geral e da Coroa. A reflexão se desenrola sob uma perspectiva que entende a ação dos revoltosos como um movimento de luta por melhores condições de vida. O trabalho conclui ressaltando a importância da mão de obra indígena para o desenvolvimento da vila e da capitania e o reconhecimento, pelos indígenas, do valor de seu trabalho. AbstractThis paper analyzes the indigenous revolt in Santana Mill, Captaincy of Ilhéus, in 1602, by reflecting on the adopted forms of resistance, the alliances that were built, its objectives and the results of its occurrence. On the other hand, the article also evaluates the reaction of the general government and of the Crown. This reflection takes place from a perspective that understands the action of the rebels as a movement for better living and working conditions. It concludes by highlighting the importance of the indigenous labor for the development of the village and of the captaincy, besides the recognition of the value of their own work by the indigenous population.Keywords: Hereditary captaincies; Santana Mill; Indigenous revolt; Work.
