Resumo: This work aims to analyze the novel of the Angolan writer Boaventura Cardoso, Mãe, materno mar, from the Theories of the Imaginary. The train journey through the territory of Angola will be taken as a symbolic journey through history and traditions of the country forgotten and smothered by colonialism. Thus, this journey through space is also a journey through time. Images of death and of birth will be studied in order to understand how it is first necessary to kill a vision that is almost completely Westernized and then to be reborn in accordance with the Angolanculture.

A viagem de trem pelo território de Angola será tomada como uma simbólica viagem pela história e pelas tradições do país esquecidas e abafadas pelo colonialismo. Assim, essa jornada pelo espaço é também uma jornada no tempo.
