Deconstruction of the conception of the indian: a pending challenge in La Araucanía, Chile

Resumo: | The article problematizes the use of the conceptualization of 'Indian' in La Araucanía, Chile. Through a historical approach, the origins of the 'Indian' are discussed, as well as the causes and psychosocial consequences that this denomination has brought to indigenous subjects, mainly the Mapuche in Chile. The methodology is qualitative of documentary-descriptive type of scientific articles, they allow a historical understanding of the origins of the Indian concept and how it prevails in society. Content analysis is used in which the nuclei of explicit and latent sense and meaning that underlie the concept 'Indian' are identified. The results reveal that the deconstruction of the 'indian' would progressively eradicate practices of racism and discrimination against indigenous children, youth and adults. We conclude that the deconstruction of the "Indian" concept implies starting from the basis of the recognition of an intercultural epistemological pluralism. |

A través de una aproximación histórica se discuten los orígenes del ‘indio’, las causas y consecuencias psicosociales que esta denominación ha traído para los sujetos indígenas, principalmente los mapuches en Chile. La metodología es cualitativa de tipo documental-descriptiva de artículos científicos, que permite una comprensión histórica de los orígenes del concepto ‘indio’ y cómo éste prevalece vigente en la sociedad chilena. Se utiliza el análisis de contenido en el que se identifican los núcleos de sentido y significado explícitos y latentes que subyacen al concepto ‘indio’. Los resultados relevan que la deconstrucción del ‘indio’, permitiría erradicar progresivamente prácticas de racismo y discriminación hacia niños, jóvenes y adultos indígenas. Concluimos que la deconstrucción del concepto “indio” implica partir de la base del reconocimiento de un pluralismo epistemológico intercultural.O artigo problematiza o uso da conceitualização de 'índio' em La Araucanía, Chile. A metodologia é qualitativa do tipo documentário-descritivo de artigos científicos, que permitem uma compreensão histórica das origens do conceito índio e como ele prevalece na sociedade. Utiliza-se a análise de conteúdo na qual são identificados os núcleos de sentido e significado explícitos e latentes que fundamentam o conceito 'índio'. Os resultados revelam que a desconstrução do 'índio' erradicaria progressivamente práticas de racismo e discriminação contra crianças, jovens e adultos indígenas.
